BROOKHAVEN — The National Weather Service warns Lincoln County and other surrounding counties in southwest Mississippi remain in fire danger conditions Friday. The threat is limited but anyone attempting to burn should proceed with caution.
NWS Jackson advises anyone who is attempting open burning should use extra caution. Low humidity and gusty winds are the reasons behind the wildfire danger concern. Mississippi Forestry Commission advised people check their local forecast and to not burn on windy days earlier this week.
Winds are forecast to be between five to 10 mph sustained speeds. People can take steps to prevent wildfires by not allowing trailer chains to drag on the roadways or by disposing of cigarettes properly and not on the ground. If you do burn, stay vigilante and do not leave a fire unattended.
MFC reminds people that 9 out of 10 wildfires are caused by human error. Only you can prevent wildfires.
