BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln Civic Center director Chaston Bullock said the Wildlife Expo will return. He gave an update on the Civic Center during a Board of Supervisors meeting Monday morning. 

Bullock said the event has a board who will oversee the event. Preston Smith is the president of the board and Molly Goldman is vice-president. The event was rebranded and will be called the Lincoln County Sportsmen Expo, Bullock said. 

“We have a board dedicated who can work it. If I get pulled out it doesn’t fold,” Bullock said. “We have a working program built on itself. We are trying to get where it is a working entity and not a one man show. I’m trying to get it where it is functional on its own.” 

He said the expo will not happen in 2024 due to not having an open weekend date for the arena and civic center building. The expo will make a return in 2025 and he plans to share the dates for the 2025 Expo with the board of supervisors at a later time. 

Board members in the meantime will go to other outdoor expos and set up a booth this year to start networking for the 2025 event. Bullock has said in the past it was important to make sure the event was at a quality the county could be proud of. 

Other events are coming to the civic center this April. District Attorney Brendon Adams is hosting a fentanyl training session for local law enforcement on April 4. On April 5 and 6, the Making MS Gala will be held at the Multi-Purpose building. A Wild West show will also be at the arena April 6. It will serve as a fundraiser for the Heucks Retreat Volunteer Fire Department. Tickets can be bought online and the show will start at 7:30 p.m. 

Bullock added the arena will host a dog show from April 25 to April 28.

Baseball is off to a hot start at the center. Bullock said they had 351 kids sign up to play which is an increase from last year’s participation of 323. 

“We are steadily increasing. The fields look good,” Bullock said. “We have a lot of good participation out there.”
