SUMMIT — Dreamus Harron Jr. was on fire once again from the mound for the Brookhaven High School Panthers. He helped Ole Brook secure a 3-0 shutout win over Wesson at Southwest Community College Thursday afternoon.
Harron Jr. struck out 15 batters, gave up 0 hits and no runs while walking just two batters in six innings. Out of his 89 pitches, 58 were strikes. Luke Simmons earned a save for the Panthers.
Simmons doubled in the fourth inning to help score a run along with his teammate Brayden Wilson who singled. Wilson’s single scored a run. Austin Rylee drove in a run for the Panthers in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly.
Drew Nelson, Rylee and Wilson finished the day with two hits each. Ole Brook had nine hits in the game and played a perfect game defensively with 0 errors. Wesson had one error.
Wesson had a rough day Thursday and lost to Parklane Academy 6-3. The Pioneers had just one hit in the win but Wesson’s 8 errors blew a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
Wesson got off to a strong start in the first inning with Preston Selman’s single driving in a run and a base runner scoring on a pitch in the dirt to make it 2-0. Five errors in the second inning gave Parklane Academy a 5-2 lead. Parklane would score again in the third inning on a sacrifice bunt.
A single by Wesson’s Baylor Smith drove in a run and cut the lead in half in the sixth inning but it was not enough.
Panthers, Cougars tie
Last Tuesday, the Panthers tied Lawrence County at Southwest Community College 4-4. Mason White singled in the first inning to score a run for Brookahven. Lawrence County hit back with a single by Fred Harris and an error scoring two runs to take the lead in the bottom of the first.
Luke Simmons put the Panthers back in the lead with a double scoring two runs. A wild pitch scored another run making it 4-2 Brookhaven.
Lawrence County tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a walk and an error.
Drew Nelson, White and Simmons had two hits for the Panthers. Caden Case and Harris finished the game with two hits for Lawrence County.
BA’s losing streak continues
Brookhaven Academy suffered an 11-10 loss to Cathedral Monday and did not have much luck against Tri-County Academy Tuesday. The Cougars lost 8-5 despite out hitting their opponent 5-2.
BA got off to a strong start in the top of the first inning by scoring two runs. Avery Griffin tripled to drive in the run while Magee Liam forced a run across the plate on a ground out. Tri-County answered by tying the game 2-2 in the bottom half of the first inning.
In the second inning, Brookhaven Academy broke the tie with an RBI single by Sam Stevens. Carter Case drove in a run on a ground out to make it 4-2. Tri County again tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the second inning.
Tri-County’s three run third inning put them over the top and helped drive them to victory. BA pitchers struggled to find the strike zone and walked 10 batters in the loss. Tri-County gave up just three walks and that was the difference.
Jackets fall on spring break
Enterprise took a trip down to the Mississippi gulf coast for spring break and lost to two strong teams. St. George’s beat them Wednesday 9-1 after a six run fourth inning.
The Yellowjackets had the early lead in the first after a wild pitch. St. George’s took the lead in the third inning with two runs and added to it with six runs in the fourth. The Gryphons finished the day with seven hits.
Head Coach Austin Hood’s team struggled at the plate with one hit. On defense, they made three errors St. George’s didn’t give out many free passes either, walking two batters.
Thursday the Yellowjackets faced a tough Woodlands (Texas) team at Long Beach High School. Woodlands took an early one run lead and added seven more runs in the final three innings to win 8-0.
Enterprise played a cleaner game on defense, committing one error. The Highlanders from Woodland finished the game with nine hits while Enterprise had two hits. Haygan Floyd and Nick Harris had the pair of hits for Enterprise.
