BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County Board of Supervisors quickly approved the minutes from last week, payroll and meal counts with little discussion before approving items brought forward by Lincoln County sheriff Steve Rushing Wednesday morning. Two approved items are for training sessions and a third item renewed the food service contract for Lincoln County’s Jail. 

Supervisors meet twice a month to approve payroll and other budgetary items on the second and fourth Wednesday’s of each month at 9 a.m. They approved the need to cover any incidental cost accrued by a sheriff’s office investigator over the course of investigative certification training over eight months. 

Rushing additionally requested his lodging for a training class in Gulfport to be covered which was approved by the board. 

He brought forward a contract with Summit Food Service, which provides the food for the Lincoln County Jail. Rushing said they have been with Summit since 2010. The renewal is done every year and covers the cost of food. Meals will go up about 14 cents under the contract. 

“We adjusted our food costs for the increase in meals last year. They are the only company who does that and we are satisfied with them,” Rushing said. “We provide the work crews and they oversee the food costs. We keep the equipment and have a kitchen for them to cook on site.”

Supervisors approved the contract renewal. The board will tour the Lincoln County Jail next week following their regularly scheduled Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday morning.
