Winds causing temporary power outages, businesses work through it

With wind gusts as high as 25 mph Tuesday, some homes and businesses are seeing temporary power outages.

Entergy customers reported several off-and-on situations across the morning. While the power outages are annoying, businesses are still working through it. The Cookbook, located at 119 West Chickasaw Street, said the blackouts keep coming at random times.

“The power outages have not affected us at all today though. We are still cooking,” The Cookbook said.

Hunter Posey said the power kept going out this morning. He is the owner of Hunter L. Posey Insurance and Mossy Oak Properties Posey Land Company at 105 West Chickasaw Street.

“It hasn’t effected my day. Our power has gone out twice. It hasn’t effected us, we are just working through it,” Posey said. “It hasn’t been an obstacle for us.”

High winds can cause power lines to come into contact with tree limbs or other power lines. Limbs can also fall from trees due to winds, and trees can fall and strike lines, bringing the lines to the ground, breaking lines or poles, or causing temporary interruptions to power service, according to Entergy customer service.

As of just after noon Tuesday, Entergy had 171 customers without power in Lincoln County. Other Lincoln County outages reported were 23 Southwest Mississippi EPA customers and 432 Magnolia Electric Power customers.
