VICKSBURG — It was not a pretty start to the day in the South State tournament for Brookhaven Academy. Parklane scored 12 runs on 14 hits to beat the Cougars 12-1.

Brookhaven Academy had just two hits in the game and did not score a run until the sixth inning. Parklane scored six insurance runs in the seventh inning to drive the final nail in the coffin.

Kinsey Covington pitched 5.1 innings in the contest and struck-out just two batters. 67 percent of her pitches were strikes in the game. Both teams committed two errors but the biggest difference between the two squads was hitting.

BA will have to play Copiah Academy next to determine who plays Parklane Academy in the South State Championship.

Fortunately, for Brookhaven Academy, the Cougars qualified for the State tournament this coming Saturday in Magee.
