Middleton gives first report on Co-Lin

BROOKHAVEN — Copiah Lincoln Community College president Dewayne Middleton gave a report to the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors Monday morning. Middleton was named president by the board of trustees in May and replaced Jane Hulon-Sims.
Co-Lin had several accomplishments in the 2022-to-2023 school year. Ty’China Byrd was nameda Silver Scholar on Coca-Cola’s Academic team, Co-Lin’s softball team on the NJCAA Softball World Series, Co-Lin’s Mens Basketball team won a conference championship, 13 linemen graduated from their lineman program. PJ’s Coffee opened on campus and work finished on the baseball stadium.
Co-Lin was named Mississippi’s No.1 Community College by Intelligent.com while it was named a “Great College to Work For,” For a sixth straight time. Wolf Den reopened as an improved version of the old grill. Middleton thanked the board for allowing him to speak.
“We are so proud Lincoln County is part of our district. Co-Lin is a great place and it changed my life. What y’all do is appreciated,” Middleton said. “Your help is needed to get all students to Co-Lin. We have one of the lowest tuition rates at $1,750 per semester. We believe the dollar goes further at Co-Lin. We want to promote jobs in the area. We look forward to continuing our long standing relationship.”
Middleton was joined by Vice-President of Business Affairs Richard Baker, Board of Trustee Randall Lofton and Melton King were at the meeting. In his report, Middleton mentioned the absence of longtime trustee Tommy Sasser.
“We lost Mr. Sasser sadly. He was a friend to me and so many others,” Middleton said. “He was a great board member and we miss him.”
