The 2023 Lincoln County Primary Election is only six weeks away, and absentee voting has begun.

Anyone who will be out of town on Tuesday, Aug. 8 — Election Day — in college, is over the age of 65, or is not physically able to go to the polls can vote absentee. Voters should bring a photo ID with them to the office of the Circuit Clerk, located on the second floor of the Lincoln County/Brookhaven Government Complex, South First Street.

The office is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office will also be open on the two Saturdays immediately prior to Election Day — July 29 and Aug. 5 — from 8 a.m. until noon.

The final day to register for any election is 30 days prior to that election. For the Primary, that deadline is Monday, July 10, at 5 p.m. The registration deadline to vote in the Primary Runoff Election on Aug. 29 is 5 p.m., Monday, July 31.

The office will also be open Saturday, July 8, until noon for citizens to register to vote, make changes to their address, or vote absentee.

Anyone who is already registered to vote does not need to re-register unless their address has changed.

To absentee vote by mail, call the Circuit Clerk’s Office at 601-835-3435 and request a ballot.

“If you receive a ballot by mail, you can only return it by mail,” Circuit Clerk Dustin Bairfield said. “Poll workers are always needed. If you are able to work on Aug. 8 from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m., please call the Circuit Clerk’s Office.”

Poll worker training is open to the public and all candidates on Saturday, July 29, at 9 a.m. in the Circuit Court courtroom; at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1; and 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4.
