Several city project updates were presented to the Brookhaven Board of Aldermen during its regular meeting Tuesday.
The areas on First Street that have recently been worked on — in front of the Lincoln County/Brookhaven Government Complex and in the intersection with East Monticello Street — will be paved once the gravel has packed down sufficiently, according to Sewer/Water Department Superintendent Kris Xifos.
All of the houses on the city’s list to be torn down and removed have been except for two, according to City Inspector David Fearn. Those two will be completed as soon as possible.
Mayor Joe Cox said Dungan Engineering engineer Ryan Holmes was looking at Union Street, Dale Trail and other areas to determine if tearing up the asphalt and pouring concrete as an undergirding material would be the best route for needed repairs.
Ward 1 Alderman James Magee Jr. motioned to take $600,000 from the infrastructure funds received by the city and allocate $100,000 to each of the wards in order to repave two or three roads in each ward. The board unanimously approved the motion.
Magee also motioned to begin clearing the lot at the corner of Brignall and Carter roads designated for development of a health and wellness park. This also passed without opposition.
