A Madison police officer has died and a Brandon officer is in stable condition following an attempt to arrest a barricaded suspect.

Early Thursday morning, officers received a call of a possible hostage situation in the Crossgates neighborhood of Brandon. When they arrived on scene, the subject fired shots at officers.

A Brandon Police officer received significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition.

The subject received unknown injuries.

Later in the morning, while attempting to enter the residence where the subject was barricaded, a Madison Police officer was shot and suffered fatal injuries.

The subject also received fatal injuries.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assessing the incidents and gathering evidence, which will be presented to the Attorney General’s office upon conclusion.
