Geneva Annette McCullough Welch, 74, of Ruth, MS died April 26, 2023, with family at her side. Mrs. Welch was born March 14, 1949, to D.W. McCullough Jr. and Mildred Lewis McCullough. Mrs. Welch is survived by:
Three daughters: Martha Jordana Welch and husband, Ric Alba of Cedar Creek, TX; Laura Ann Bradley and husband, Gregory Bradley of Rosharon, TX; Naomi Flora Cancienne and husband, Brain Cancienne of Cypress, TX. One son: H.R. Welch III of Zachary, LA. Two granddaughters: Olivia Marcelle Welch of Baton Rouge, LA; and Lela Ann Cancienne of Cypress, TX. Two grandsons: Daniel Lachlan Bradley of Houston, TX; and Rex Charles Cancienne of Cypress, TX. Preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Hilton Ray Welch Jr., and her parents. Mrs. Welch was the eldest grandchild of Daniel Webster McCullough and Anna Ruth Edwards McCullough of Ruth, MS.
Mrs. Welch was retired from the State of Louisiana Land Office where she was entrusted with supervising the state’s historical land records. Mrs. Welch held a real estate license. She served as church secretary at Redwood Baptist Church in Slaughter, LA, and taught Sunday School. She was a Bible Scholar and a tremendous storyteller. She used these skills to enthrall children and adults alike with the Bible Hero stories she told during Vacation Bible School assemblies.
Mrs. Welch was a world traveler and very adventurous. She enjoyed her travels to Mexico, the United Kingdom, Australia, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Egypt, and Jordan. She was a bold person who faced life unafraid. She began her skydiving adventures on her 50th birthday. Mrs. Welch enjoyed hosting the extended McCullough family for Thanksgiving meals. She would prepare enough fixings and candies for a small army. Mrs. Welch was our family historian; our best living storyteller; keeper of our family secrets, facts, and fiction. She advocated the remembrance of history and promoted learning from history to prevent repeating mistakes in the future.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Welch would recommend that you enjoy a tasty meal, followed by a Snickers bar, an ice-cold Coca-Cola, and a good story.
