BROOKHAVEN — National Weather Service in Jackson forecasts heavy rainfall could visit Lincoln County and the surrounding areas Thursday night into Saturday. As a result, flash flooding will be a concern with low lying areas, small creeks, rivers and bayous and urban areas being the most at risk areas.

While it appears the forecasted severe storms moved north of I-20, heavy rainfall still threatens. There is a 90 percent chance of rain for the rest of today and Friday has an 80 percent chance of rain. April showers bring May flowers.

In the past 24 hours, 1.25 inches of rain fell in Lincoln County with more rain expected. NWS Jackson warns flash flooding could happen as up to two inches of rainfall could be possible in a short amount of time. Rain could continue into Saturday with a 50 percent chance of precipitation.

Thursday’s projected rain and storms has forced a few high schools to reschedule games. Loyd Star and Brookhaven cancelled their softball games scheduled for tonight.

Forecasts of severe and rainy weather for this Friday already has the Brookhaven Farmer’s Market shifting locations. The first market of the year will be held at the Amtrak Train Depot at 440 N. Railroad Avenue.

Spring Market is at 8:30 a.m. Friday until noon and will feature vendors selling baked goods, honey, beef, soap, plants and veggie starts. A tomato presentation will begin at 10 a.m. and people can bring non-perishable food items in exchange for seeds.
