BROOKHAVEN — National Weather Service in Jackson is forecasting a marginal risk for severe storms in Lincoln and Lawerence County this week. Southwest Mississippi is not finished with storms yet it seems.

According to the forecast, southeastern Lincoln County and south Lawerence County should expect a marginal risk for severe storms late tonight into early Tuesday morning. Wind gusts could be damaging with 20 mph gusts forecast for Brookhaven Tuesday. Hail and tornadoes can not be ruled out according to the NWS.

There is a 60 percent chance of precipitation tonight and into Tuesday.

Another round of severe weather is being monitored for the end of the week. Friday could see severe storms with the major risk being north of I-20. However, the event is still several days away and further information will become available in the coming days.

It is likely there will be rain on Friday with a 20 percent chance of precipitation and 40 percent chance of precipitation on Saturday.

Tornado surveys

A seventh tornado was confirmed to have touched down near Amory in the outbreak Friday night. It was classified as an EF3 and NWS reports two people were killed by it. NWS survey teams identified one as an EF4 which killed 17 people in the area of Rolling Fork, four are reported to be EF1s according to preliminary information and two EF3s touched down.

To date, 22 people have been killed by tornadoes in Mississippi since Jan. 1 with 22 tornadoes and 22 plus injuries attributed to tornadoes.

Lincoln County’s Little Bahalia community had a tornado touch down in February. The EF1 damaged a home, carport and destroyed a mobile home.
