BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County and the surrounding areas could see some strong severe storms Friday to close out the work week. NWS Jackson forecasts the area to have an enhanced risk of seeing tornadoes, damaging winds and hail.

The storms are capable of producing tornadoes, some of which could be strong, damaging winds and large hail. NWS forecasts the weather will make its way across Lincoln, Franklin, Copiah, Pike, Amite and Lawerence Counties between 8 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday.

Strong winds are forecast to begin earlier in the day Friday. Sustained wind speeds of 20-to-25 mph with gusts over 40 mph is expected in the area from 1 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday. Wind could down trees and powerlines. High winds can pose a risk to high profile vehicles traveling so drive carefully tomorrow.

Sunday has potential for more severe weather to move through the area. Hail and damaging winds are the primary concern according to the National Weather Service. It is likely the system will move through the area Sunday afternoon and evening but the event is still several days away.
