BROOKHAVEN — Good Day Farm’s medical cannabis dispensary is now open at the location that was previously an IHOP in front of Home Depot. Based in Little Rock, Arkansas, the company will have dispensaries in Biloxi, Brookhaven, Corinth, Laurel, Tupelo and has a cultivation facility in Oxford. 

The company has operations in Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana and Missouri. It is headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas and started in Arkansas. Laurie Gregory, chief of marketing for Good Day Farm, said they were proud to have opened dispensaries in Mississippi.  

Good Day Farm also has a cultivation facility in Oxford which is 130,000 square feet and is growing more than 50 different strains of medical cannabis. She said the facility has an on-site lab and kitchen where employees produce vapes, edibles and gummies. 

“Our mission is to be ambassadors for medical cannabis in the south and to break the stigma,” Gregory said. “Our intention is to have dispensaries around the state and be a local destination for customers. These areas might be forgotten about in other states when dispensaries are opened in big cities. Our mission is to provide patients throughout the state with high quality cannabis.” 

Cannabis dispensaries can only sell marijuana grown in the state. All of the cannabis products sold by Good Day Farm are grown at their Oxford location although they might be able to add more cultivation locations in the future. 

Gregory said cannabis legacy states such as Colorado or California do not have a stigma around medical cannabis but the southern states due because the marketplace is new. Good Day Farm hopes to break the stigma and has hope for the future of the industry in Mississippi. 

Product quality is important to Good Day Farm. They work diligently to produce cannabis with a higher quality than what you might find in the illicit market and test the product. 

“We believe in the healing aspects of marijuana. It is our mission to be a part of sharing this amazing plant,” Gregory said. “We are facing a challenge right now with patient count. Mississippi is putting more infrastructure in to help patients get cards quicker and easier. It will be amazing once more patients get their cards.”

Medical Marijuana Cards are important because patients can not enter dispensaries or buy cannabis without one. Mississippi Today reported 1,732 cards were issued in a story published January 26, 2023. 

Liz Sharlot, Director of Mississippi State Department of Health Communications, said there are now 2,977 medical cannabis card holders statewide with 2,129 applications in processing. She said program areas are continuing to build their staffing levels. 

Legislation in Mississippi would allow providers such as Good Day Farm to aid people in applying for cards along with other changes. HB1158 is currently in the Mississippi Senate and has been referred to the Public Health and Welfare Comittee. 

“We have high hopes and feel positive great changes will happen and more availability of cards will happen,” Gregory said. “We want to encourage those who can to get out. Hopefully, the industry will grow and dispensaries can add more jobs. We are also able to elevate the environment and buildings aren’t left empty.” 

Good Day Farm is in the former I-Hop and has an open floor plan with natural bright lighting and a white welcoming exterior. A security guard at the store makes sure everything is protected and secure. 

“We want our patients to feel good. We will grow as patients and consumer demands grow,” Gregory said. “Our company was inspired by a small hemp farm in Tennessee. They spoke about how good of a day it was and about good cannabis. Good Day comes from surrounding yourself with good people and cannabis. Our mission is to promote more good days and goodness at a good value.”
