Lincoln County School District discontinuing transfers out of district for new requests

The Lincoln County School District has an updated procedure regarding any new requests for a student to transfer out of the Lincoln County School District, Superintendent David Martin said.
Any student currently transferring out (approved in the 2022-23 school year) of Lincoln County School District may continue to do so following their yearly request and approval by both districts. Requests should be made prior to March 31 each year.
However, Lincoln County School District will not approve any new transfer-out requests, except as provided by law, beginning in the 2023-2024 school year.
“It’s always just been up to the district about transfers,” Martin said. “I understand that the policy has been discussed for years, but we’ve always had an open-door policy and that continued. All the other districts have stopped it and decided not to take new transfer requests. We are now adopting what other school districts have been doing.”
A “transfer out” is a student who resides in Lincoln County School District (Bogue Chitto, Enterprise, Loyd Star or West Lincoln) and wishes to attend another school district.
Martin gave the following example of the prior policy and the new one:
A student (K-12) who transferred out of Lincoln County School District during the 2022-23 school year will still be allowed to transfer out (for the 2023-24 school year) by the mutual consent of both districts concerned. Any student who resides (currently or moves into) in the Lincoln County School District during the 2023-24 school year and did not transfer out during the 2022-23 school year will not be allowed to transfer out, except as provided by law.
Martin added that transfers within the four Lincoln County Schools (Bogue Chitto, Enterprise, Loyd Star and West Lincoln) will continue to be allowed if approved by both school administrators. Requests should be made prior to March 31 each year.
Transfers into the Lincoln County School District will continue to be allowed by the mutual consent of both districts concerned. A parent must first request and receive a release from their home district. Requests should be made prior to March 31 each year.
