MTC awards 15 projects, including 4 in Southern District

The Mississippi Transportation Commission has awarded contracts for 15 maintenance projects across the state. The Mississippi Department of Transportation will oversee the projects, which will maintain and enhance Mississippi’s transportation infrastructure.

“A robust transportation network is vital for economic development,” said Commissioner Tom King, Chair, Mississippi Transportation Commission. “From pavement overlays to bridge preservation work, these projects help ensure the businesses and people of our state have efficient and reliable infrastructure for the transport of goods and services.”

In the Southern Transportation District, contracts awarded were:

  • $3 million to Dickerson & Bowen Inc., of Brookhaven, for a mill and overlay of shoulders, local roads and crossovers of approximately five miles along Hwy. 84 from Hwy. 51 to Monticello Street in Lincoln County.
  • $9.9 million to Dunn Roadbuilders LLC, of Laurel, for an overlay of 11 miles of Hwy. 84 from the beginning of state maintenance in Laurel to the Wayne County line in Jones County.
  • $2.1 million to Dunn Roadbuilders LLC, of Laurel, for an overlay of five miles of State Route 18 from the Jasper County line to State Route 512 in Clarke County.
  • $4.8 million to Huey P. Stockstill LLC, of Picayune, for an overlay of 11 miles of S.R. 57 from the Jackson County line to S.R. 26 in George County.

“Our number one priority at MDOT is to keep the state of Mississippi safe. These projects are a major investment into Mississippi’s transportation infrastructure and the safety of the traveling public,” said Commissioner Willie Simmons, Central Transportation District. “This is progress in every region. I look forward to working with the Transportation Commissioners to continue building and maintaining our infrastructure for future generations.”

Approximately $10.6 million was awarded for five projects in the Central Transportation District. Dickerson & Bowen Inc., of Brookhaven, was awarded a $4.3 million contract for mill and overlay of two miles of S.R. 15, from 0.6 miles south of S.R. 21/S.R. 15 intersection to 0.5 miles north of S.R. 16 intersection, 0.15 miles of S.R. 885 and the County Road 383 intersection 0.75 miles north of the end of the project in Neshoba County.

The other CTD projects are: a bridge preservation project on I-20 in Rankin County; an overlay of S.R. 432 from I-5 to Hwy. 51 in Yazoo County; and a jetty repair on I-20/I-55 over the Pearl River in Hinds County; a mill and overlay of S.R. 43 from south of I-20 to Pelahatchie in Rankin County.

Dickerson & Bowen Inc., of Brookhaven, was also awarded one of the six projects in the Northern Transportation District. A $2.6 million contract was awarded for a scrub seal and overlay of six miles of S.R. 14 from S.R. 35 to 0.75 miles west of S.R. 19 in Attala County.

An additional $51.9 million was awarded for five more NTD projects: a mill and overlay of I-55 and State Routes 310 and 315 in Panola County; an overlay of S.R. 4 in Marshall and Benton counties; an overlay of S.R. 9 in Union County; a mill and overlay of S.R. 32 in Chickasaw County; and a mill and overlay of S.R. 309 in Marshall County.
