Three area students have been selected as winners of Magnolia Electric Power’s Youth Leadership program. They are Maggie Sheppard of Brookhaven High; Brice Peeples of West Lincoln High; and Isabella Clark of McComb High.
Twenty-four students competed in the Youth Leadership program. Students participated in MEP’s Cooperative University, during which they were able to hear from local Mississippi legislators and ask questions on many wide-ranging topics. Sen. Jason Barrett, Rep. Becky Currie and Rep. Vince Mangold were among the seven legislators on the panel.
The 24 were then narrowed down to 13, who took part in an interview competition. That group was then narrowed down to the three winners, who will attend a Leadership Training Seminar in Jackson on March 1-3, 2023, and travel to Washington, DC, June 18-23, 2023. All expenses are paid for both trips.
“We would like to express our appreciation to all the area schools and the students for their participation,” MEP said in an online statement. “It is our honor to recognize each student who participated for their achievements and contributions to their community. It is Magnolia Electric Power’s goal to continue this program in the future with the help of our schools. Together, we can recognize and help shape the future leaders of our communities.”
