Trick-or-Treat in BOO-gue Chitto Sunday

For anyone who has been isolated from the world lately, it’s almost Halloween.
Children and families in Bogue Chitto can come together for some safe, spooky fun at the community center Sunday afternoon.
In 2021, BC resident Lameshia McMorris helped organize a trunk-or-treat event with games, candy and a hay ride. The 2022 event was organized by McMorris, Evelyn Swington, Darius Swington, Johnny Hall and several other volunteers.
“Several of the guys in our community set up their trailers and filled them with hay,” McMorris said. “The kids lined up and piled onto the trailers and we rode them in a trail.”
This year’s event will be very similar, adding a DJ to the mix, and with tents set up in the field next to the community center at 2510 Hwy. 51 S. The fun starts at 4 p.m. and the event will end around 7 p.m.
McMorris has deep roots in Bogue Chitto. Her grandfather ran a store here several years ago. She said she’s always tried to do something wherever she’s lived to help the area’s children. She wants the time together to help bring a good spirit back to the community.
“It’s absolutely free. We want them to wear a costume so it will be a little more festive, and bring something to put their candy in,” McMorris said. “My whole goal is just to give the kids something to smile about. There’s not too much they can get into now that just excites children.”
