On Wednesday, the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors heard from Emergency Management Director Chris Reid about fire ratings in the county.

“I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the fire rating districts and you may want to know about lowering that rate,” he said. “We are actively working on it. I’m working with the departments that are not rated.”

Reid also said he has been testing a new text messaging service to ensure every fire worker who is set to receive an alert will receive it.

“We are not eliminating radios,” he added. “It’s within my budget to provide both the city and county with this service, which has been working really well.”

The service, which costs $2,000 per year, provides maps and lists of who is responding to a fire, which would come in handy for departments struggling with fewer numbers of volunteers than ever.

In other business

Board President Doug Falvey asked for a motion to approve Karen Sullivan to the position of representative to the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority No. 7 Board, but the board had to table the motion after Wilson said he had the name of someone he wanted considered.

The board also approved the following motions:

• Publication in the Daily Leader that land rolls are ready for public inspection

• Meal count sheets for Week 43 and 44

• Personnel reports

• Acknowledged of the filing of Kelly Porter’s Constable Annual Financial Report

• Certification from Dustin Bairfield to place Janice Haley’s name on the ballot for election commissioner

• Culvert replacement on Arthur Drive

• Set Sept. 30 and Oct 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for county employees to receive any requested vaccinations
