National Hospital Week is May 8-14 this year and the theme is #WeAreHealthCare. The theme intends to showcase the pride and resiliency of front-line workers in America’s hospitals and health systems, the AHA said on its webpage.

The American Hospital Association’s National Hospital Week serves as a way to highlight its hospitals, health systems and health care workers as well as the innovative ways they are supporting and connected to their community.

National Hospital Week has been set to coincide with the birth day of Florence Nightingale on May 12. Considered the founder of modern nursing, Nightingale helped usher in a more cleanly way of wound care back when many patients died of infection.

Health care workers continue in this treatment of care and attention. The AHA said on its website that “hospitals find innovative ways to support the needs of patients and community; this is especially important during surges of COVID-19. During National Hospital Week and all weeks, we recognize the 5,000 hospitals, health care systems, networks, and others who provide care to their community.”

The very first National Hospital Day was established in 1921 to inspire community members to support hospitals after the 1918 Spanish flu outbreak, nationalday.com reported. In 1953, National Hospital Day was changed to National Hospital Week.

The AHA invites all health care workers and community members to use the “#hospitalweek” hashtag during National Hospital Week to show the force of strength that helped them keep steady throughout the pandemic.
