A local non-profit wants to add support fo rits annual scholarship program.

Each year, Families United Training Center, a 501(c)(3) organization, strives to achieve its mission with the help of dedicated community members and valued sponsors. They all join with the mission to help eliminate barriers to success for disadvantaged youth and families by helping them achieve self-sufficiency.

“We offer mentoring, tutoring, and educational advancement opportunities for youth and families at no cost to families,” said Falana McDaniel, executive director of Families United Training Center. “Our organization started in 2014 with the formation of our Rising STARS for Christ girls mentoring program. We immediately recognized the need for a family-centered training and development program.”

The entity is soliciting financial support for its RISE Scholarship Fund to help disadvantaged high school seniors gain access to further their education.

Its first scholarship recipient from 2017 is currently a senior at Auburn University, majoring in environmental science. She graduates from Auburn University in spring. Its  2020 scholarship recipient is a sophomore at Copiah-Lincoln Community College majoring in electrical engineering.

“We will present six scholarships to disadvantaged seniors in March,” McDaniel said, reaching out to organizations and businesses to consider partnering with them as a sponsor. Families United Training Center will hold its banquet March 10 at Mitchell’s Events & Catering in Brookhaven

Businesses can choose from four levels of sponsorship: bronze, up to $499; silver, $500-1,499; gold, $1,500-2,999; or platinum, $3,000 or more.
