The city of Brookhaven has hired a municipal prosecutor.
The Board of Aldermen voted Sept. 21 to hire attorney Ikeecia Colenberg to fill the position. Brookhaven Attorney Cheli Durr, who previously held the position and resigned to work in the District Attorney’s office, has acted as city prosecutor since July 1 in a temporary role.
The role of the city prosecutor is to represent the city in all municipal court matters. Court meets weekly on Tuesday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Vicksburg-based attorney Colenberg also serves as county prosecuting attorney for Jefferson County. In this role, she represents the state in all felony matters in the county’s justice or county court. The prosecuting attorney also handles all other cases not specified to the District Attorney.
In addition, she is the University Title IX Coordinator for Alcorn State University. The responsibility of the Title IX office is to build and maintain a safe, gender equitable environment for students, faculty and staff.
