The Brookhaven Board of Aldermen approved the hiring of two new Brookhaven Police Department officers and the promotion of two Brookhaven Fire Department fire fighters during the board’s regular meeting Tuesday.
OMarius Bryant and Jason Wells were hired in the police department as non-certified officers at $28,084.80 annually, pending drug tests and physicals.
Bryant, who was present at the meeting, is a former professional football player and Hazlehurst police officer.
Diwardric Jackson was moved from full-time to part-time non-certified officer effective Tuesday.
BFD fire fighters Patrick Earls and Justin Graves have become certified and their salaries were increased to reflect the change — from $28,084.80 to $31,010.31 annually — retroactive to their certification date of April 15.
The board also approved the resignations of BPD officer Tiara Allen-David, effective June 1, and Water/Solid Waste Department truck driver/operator Danny Sykes, effective May 20. Two terminations were also approved for failure to complete requirements of employment — Rickey Thadison from the Water Department and Henry Rawls, CDL driver/equipment operator in the Street/Solid Waste Department.
