Georgia-Pacific Monticello recently donated $10,000 to the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce in support of several programs.

A portion of the donation will go to Mississippi Scholars and Tech Masters. This program offers scholarships to Lawrence County High School students who have excelled in the classroom or in vocational programs.

GP is also supporting a new event in the local community — the Red Bluff Gran Fondo cycling event. The USA Cycling licensed event has attracted 300 riders to Monticello and has resulted in $23,000 in donations to local charities and projects.

Part of the contribution will also go toward the Chamber’s efforts to improve Lawrence County’s economy.

“I thank GP for its most recent contribution to the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce,” Leigh Ann Reeves, executive assistant with Lawrence County Economic Development, said. “This charitable contribution will support some great events and programs throughout the county.”
