The Lincoln County Mississippi Scholars is preparing for this year’s scholarship event.
The Mississippi Scholars program was brought to Lincoln County in 2005 and has only grown from there. The goal of the program is for students to pursue a rigorous course of study and help build their attendance, community service and ACT score.
The sister program, Mississippi Scholars Tech Master, recognizes students who not only complete an academic curriculum, but include career and technical courses as well.
In 2020, 161 Lincoln County graduates received either the Mississippi Scholars and/or Tech Master designation. Because of contributions made to the program by area businesses, the program has awarded each student that receives designation a $250 scholarship.
The program’s award banquet will be adjusted due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
“While we would like to have our traditional awards banquet, we are still dealing with COVID-19,” Lincoln County program representative Jason Snider said. “We will communicate with the high schools and strive to abide by the governor’s executive order to make a safe and enjoyable event for this year’s graduates.”
In the past, the banquet has been scheduled for the spring in order to coincide with graduation and other awards events.
