The Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce is looking for its 2021 Miss Hospitality.

With spring comes the search for a new Miss Hospitality. The contest will be Feb. 27 at the chamber’s office. Eligible ladies are seniors in high school to seniors in college, ages 18-24. The local participation fee is $25.

Participants must submit their application and fee by Wednesday Feb. 24 at 4 p.m.

In order to adhere to local and state mandates regarding COVID-19, masks will be required in the building until contestants are safely distanced from any chamber staff and judges present.

The contest will consist of a brief interview and participants will be judged on presence, composure, and interview skills. The local winner selected must be able to attend the state competition workshop May 22 and the state competition July 16-17, both in Hattiesburg.

Duties as Miss Hospitality include attending local ribbon cuttings, grand opening events, festivals and other retail events.

Chamber Program Director Katie Nations is excited for this year’s contest and crowning the 2021 Miss Hospitality.

“This will be my fifth year as local director,” Nations said. “I am learning just as much each year through these dynamic young ladies as they do from us and our committee that assists them in their preparation. My hope is that the winner will walk away with the life skills that preparing for the state contest offers such as communication, confidence, poise, grace and an overall sense of pride for their hometown.”

Nations hopes to find a young lady that will represent Brookhaven and Lincoln County in a positive way.

“I am hopeful that our community will produce a great selection of local contestants that I know will represent Brookhaven and Lincoln County well at the state level as they have each year in the past,” Nations said. “I know there is a state winner out there from Brookhaven and we can’t wait to meet her!”
