The Mississippi Department of Public Safety’s “Skip the Line” program is now available statewide.
After testing at Biloxi and Pearl Driver Service Bureaus, Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell said the program has been successful and is immediately extended to every location statewide where driver licenses can be obtained.
The program includes several components to reduce customer wait times — online appointments, mail-in or online firearm renewals, removal of the alphabet schedule and a Skip the Line cam.
Customers can schedule an appointment online by visiting www.dps.ms.gov/appointment. These appointments are given priority over walk-in customers. All firearm permit renewal applications will be processed by mail, eliminating the need to renew in person and the requirement of fingerprinting for renewals. Applications are available online at www.driverservicebureau.dps.ms.gov/Firearms/Home.
The alphabet schedule restricting service times to certain days of the week by last name of applicants has been discontinued, allowing all services to be available every weekday to anyone. Customers can also now view lines at all troop locations prior to arriving by accessing the Skip the Line cam at www.driverservicebureau.dps.ms.gov/live-feeds.
“We are excited to announce that the ‘Skip the Line’ program is now available statewide,” Tindell said Thursday. “The online appointment system has reduced the lines at our Driver Service Bureaus in Biloxi and Pearl. Customers are utilizing the other components of the program and have reported shorter wait times. Overall, the program has been highly successful, and we look forward to offering these services to customers throughout the state.”
