(AP) — A 6-year-old girl who was on a trip to visit the Jackson Zoo with her mother and another man has been hospitalized for gunshot wounds after she and her mother were shot inside a hotel room by the man.
Jackson Police Department Spokesman Sam Brown said the early Sunday shooting in Jackson was a result of a domestic dispute between the girl’s mother, Marlanque Braggs, and Myles Perkins, a local news outlet reported.
The three had traveled from north Mississippi to Jackson for the zoo visit, according to police.
Braggs, 19, was shot in the shoulder at the hotel, a Holiday Inn Express & Suites. After shooting her and her daughter, Perkins, 26, killed himself with a gunshot to the head, police said.
Police had no information on the conditions of the girl and her mother.
