MBS to host COVID-19 antibody testing drive July 10

Mississippi Blood Services will host a COVID-19 antibody testing drive at Petsense in the coming week.
MBS will be set up at Petsense on Brookway Boulevard July 10 from noon to 5 p.m. accepting blood donations. Those who donate can receive a COVID-19 antibody test.
MBS has announced that blood donors will receive the COVID-19 antibody test at all locations through July 11. The test will determine if the donor’s immune system has produced antibodies to the virus regardless of whether they have experienced symptoms.
The test is free to those who complete a successful blood donation. The antibody test is available to anyone who completes a whole blood, platelet or double red blood cell donation.
Donors who test positive for the COVID-19 antibody are encouraged to donate convalescent plasma. Results will be sent to donors within one week of their donation.
MBS suggests that all donors eat at least within four hours of their donation period. If a prospective donor is not feeling well or has a fever, they should not come to donate blood since the test being provided is not a diagnostic test.
Appointments can be made through the MBS website at www.msblood.com.
