Local student Madeline King is showing her support for health care workers by selling signs in their honor.

King, a rising senior at Brookhaven High School, had a vision and wanted to give back to the health care workers in her area.

With the outbreak of COVID-19, medical personnel have been working around the clock to provide care for patients. This has left a toll on them physically and mentally. Many have had to quarantine away from their families when they aren’t working.

“They’re having to distance themselves from their families. They’re giving so much,” King said.

Once King had an idea, she began to implement it with her family’s help. She and her mom Beth went to A&Z Printing and worked with a designer on how the final product would look.

Once the signs were printed, King began selling them. They were more popular than she thought they would be, and soon she ran out. And that was just the first order.

“We’re on our third order right now,” King said. “We never thought that it would be this big.”

The first order was 120 signs and the second was 125. King has sold around 250 signs. There are two designs, with one reading “A Healthcare Hero Lives Here,” and the other, “We Appreciate Healthcare Heroes.”

“We just wanted to show how much we love them and support them,” King said.

Proceeds from the sales are going to a family in need.

King’s mom said that Madeline has done well with the process.

“This is all her, but I check behind her,” King said. “She’s done a great job.”

King hopes local medical personnel feel appreciated when they see the signs placed around the community.

“I hope they see how much our town is behind them,” King said. “And that they know we’re praying for them and supporting them.”
