(AP) — A man and a small child were hurt by broken glass when they burst through the front door of a home in Mississippi.
The homeowner shot at the man who he believed was an intruder at his home, Jackson police said in a tweet Monday.
Harlen Cavett told WLBT-TV he heard a loud banging at his door Monday morning. Cavett said he fired a round at the man after he broke through the front door. Then, he held his fire when he realized the man had a small child in his arms.
“I saw he had a baby girl and he was holding the baby like a human shield,” Cavett said.
The man then ran into Cavett’s bedroom and got in his bed. The homeowner called police.
The man went to the home with the child after getting into a dispute with a female, police said. The man and child were injured from the broken glass but are expected to recover.
