Santa Claus is coming to the Town of Wesson Friday to visit the second annual Old Time Christmas at the Old Wesson School.

Built in the late 1800s, the Old Wesson School — often simply referred to simply as the Old School — is aptly named, and Municipal Clerk Angela Hester said the Old Time Christmas is a chance for locals to return to their roots.

“The old school is an icon,” Hester said.

And there will be plenty for children and adults to enjoy about Old Time Christmas. Children will be able to take pictures with Santa, and they will have the opportunity to color and write notes to mail to him as well. Hester said they can make custom ornaments with their fingerprints or toe prints, as well.

Adults can get some last minute Christmas shopping in, with several local vendors setting up shop to sell stocking stuffers and other gifts.

Currently, there are 15 vendors registered for Old Time Christmas, but the town will accept new vendors up until the event. Hester suspects there will be between 20 and 25 separate vendors with gifts to browse.

“We’re also going to have hot chocolate and cookies,” Hester said.

The Old Time Christmas is also an opportunity for Wesson to use the historic building for something that benefits the town. In the past, Wesson has tried to market the building for events, but it has never made money for the city. In the regular December board meeting, Ward 4 Alderman Mike King suggested that building traditions in the Old School through regular community events would justify the maintenance of the building in the eyes of tax payers.

“We need to get into a regular schedule of events every year, so people can expect those events at the old school,” King said in the board meeting.
