Homecoming festivities have been the order of business all week for the Bogue Chitto Bobcats (2-5) as they prepared to face the Amite County Trojans (3-4) Friday night on Troy Smith Field.

In a back and forth game between two evenly matched teams it would be the victors from Liberty who landed the last punch as Amite County hung on for a 28-21 win in the Region 7-2A opener for both teams.

The Bobcats set the tone in the first quarter with a successful onside kick to open the game. The Bobcats then found themselves in good field position with a long reception by J.T. McCaffrey.

Quarterback Shaw King of BC then tip toed into the end zone for a TD and after a Carson Price PAT kick BC led 7-0.

It looked like the Bobcats would go up two scores after forcing a punt and moving the ball well, but a turnover gave the ball back to AC.

“We have got to find a way to fix the turnover battles,” said BC coach Gareth Sartin.

In the second quarter, the Bobcats were knocking on the door for another score, but the Trojan defense would have something to say about it. Amite County came down with an interception and returned it for a touchdown.

The Bobcats answered though when Owen Anderson found the end zone after an 11-yard reception.

Just before halftime though Amite County scored and got a 2-point conversion to make the game 14-14 at the break.

In the third quarter it was Amite County again taking advantage of turnovers as they scooped and scored on a fumble recovery to get the lead.

Amite County added to that lead before a Hunter Dixon scoring catch pulled BC to within seven.

That would be as close as they’d get though as neither team scored in the fourth quarter and the Trojans held on for the win. 

“We played harder on the defensive side of the ball,” said Sartin.  “Offensively we had our chances, but just did not capitalize.”

Defensively for the Bobcats Colten Bales and Anderson led with nine tackles a piece. Cameron Williams ended up with seven tackles and Hunter Dixon made six tackles.

BC travels to Wesson next week while Amite County hosts Loyd Star.
