(AP) — Students at Mississippi University for Women will now be serenaded with a familiar sound.

WCBI-TV reports the Callaway Clock Tower is working again after some micro-switches were fixed. The chimes can now be heard across the campus in Columbus. The iconic clock tower is on the Callaway Hall dormitory for female upperclassmen.

The university says the equipment is sensitive and needs frequent adjustments.

University President Nora Miller says the clock tower is one of the most recognizable features of the campus and it’s wonderful to hear the chimes again.

The university website says the bell tower was created in 1885 to celebrate the university’s opening as the first state-funded college for women in the United States.

The university has also had male students now for decades.
