The public is encouraged to show support for two fallen law enforcement officers today and Thursday as their funeral processions leave Easthaven Baptist Church and wind past the Brookhaven Police Department and through the city.

Following the service for officer James White at Easthaven today, which begins at 11 a.m., the procession will leave the church and head east on Hwy. 84, then left onto Hwy. 51. After it passes the police department, the procession will turn right onto Brookway Boulevard, then onto Monticello Street.

The procession will continue on Monticello Street and turn left onto Nola Road. At the T, it will turn left then proceed on to Holly Springs Baptist Church for internment.

Following the service for Cpl. Zach Moak at Easthaven Thursday, which also begins at 11 a.m., the procession will leave the church and take the same route past BPD to Brookway and then to Monticello. From there it will turn onto South First Street. The procession will turn left onto Hwy. 84, then right onto Hwy. 583. It will turn left onto Topisaw Drive then on to Wellman Baptist Church for internment.

Brookhaven Mayor Joe Cox is encouraging individuals and families to participate in both processions by lining the route to show support for the officers and their families.

“Cpl. Zach Moak and patrolman James White will forever be remembered for their ultimate sacrifice in service to our community,” he said. “Know this. Our community is strong. We come together in times of tragedy. We stand united with these families and the Brookhaven Police Department. We will get through this together as only a family can.”

Motorists should expect blocked roads and delays in traffic along the routes of the processions both days.

City offices will be closed today and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. so employees can attend the funeral services, Cox said.
