BA hosts Clinton Christian

After a trip to Alabama, an aborted game in Natchez and a win last week in Batesville, the Brookhaven Academy Cougars are finally coming home to play in front of their fans. The Cougars host the Clinton Christian Warriors Friday night at 7 p.m. on Red Stuard Field.
The home opener will also be the district opener for the Cougars. Clinton Christian (2-0) whipped Glenbrook 48-14 in their opener and rolled over Greenville Christian 46-26 last week.
The Warriors will line up a few different players at quarterback, but their bell-cow on offense is senior running back Devin Armstrong. Armstrong — a Clinton High transfer — has rushed 18 times for 319 yards and three touchdowns. Armstrong is averaging a whopping 17.7 yards per carry.
“They’ve got some speed in their skill positions,” said Brookhaven Academy coach Ron Rushing. “They aren’t going to try to run the ball inside, they’ll mostly be looking to stretch things out and get to the perimeter.”
Rushing is hoping that his offense has their break-out game tonight. Cougar senior quarterback Dawson Flowers had his coming-out party last season against the Warriors. Flowers went 15-for-22 for 274 yards and five touchdowns in a 34-6 win.
“We’ve seen some good teams so far this season and we’re excited to get back home and play in front of our fans,” said Rushing.
