A McComb woman died early Saturday morning in a one-car collision on I-55 at the Brookhaven exit.

Latasha Malena-Betrice Daniels, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lincoln County coroner’s office, said Coroner Clay McMorris.

Daniels was alone in a 2009 Chevy Impala heading north on I-55 around 5:35 a.m., said Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Fortenberry said it appears Daniels swerved around mile marker 39 about a mile south of the Brookhaven exit to avoid a deer carcass that was present and went off the interstate on the right. The car traveled down the embankment and collided with two trees.

He said the Impala overturned and Daniels was ejected from the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation by MHP.
