The Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats needed five innings Tuesday night in their 10-0 shutout win over the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs
Franklin County had no answer for the Lady Bobcats’ offensive onslaught in the first inning, where they scored five runs. The Lady Bobcats continued scoring at will, turning in a combined five runs over three innings to complete the shutout.
“Julianna Frazier and Stevie Montgomery hit their home runs off good pitches and hit the ball hard,” Lady Bobcats coach Chris Smith said. “When we try not to hit home runs, it seems like that’s when they come.”
Bogue Chitto’s Julianna Bartman got things started for the Lady Bobcats, as she led off with a double into left field. The Lady Bobcats scored their first run of the game off a Lady Bulldogs’ throwing error.
Batting with one out, Frazier blasted a three-run home run over the left-field fence. Montgomery followed with a solo home run over the left center-field fence.
The Lady Bulldogs threatened to score in their half of the second inning, as they were able to load up the bases with two outs. But Bogue Chitto’s defense stood tall and stranded the runners to end the inning.
The Lady Bobcats scored two runs in the bottom of the third, as Frazier hammered her second home run of the game.
Bogue Chitto continued to score as Lyndsey Cooper brought in a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single.
The Lady Bobcats officially put the game away in the fifth inning, scoring two runs as Kylie Chapman brought in the game’s final scores off a two-run BRI double.
“Offensively we have to be more consistent,” Smith said. “We can’t just hit here and there and depend on the home runs — we do that and it’s going to be a short season in the long run. Defensively we played pretty well and made the routine plays. The outfield played aggressively and did a good job at taking away hits, and the infielders also did a good job at taking away hits.”
Montgomery picked up the win for the Lady Bobcats.
Sydney Scott took the loss for the Lady Bulldogs.
Frazier led the Lady Bobcats with two home runs, a single and five RBIs. Codi Leggett had two singles. Montgomery had a home run and an RBI. Chapman hit a double, two singles and two RBIs. Bartman had a double. Cooper finished the hitting for the Lady Bobcats with a single and an RBI. Karly Leake hit a triple.
Jordan Claton led the Lady Bulldogs with two singles. Chloe Claton had a single.
