An hour-long weather delay wasn’t enough to stop the Lady Cougars from scoring a season high five goals in Brookhaven Academy’s 5-3 win over Hattiesburg Tuesday.
“The girls played a great game offensively,” Cougars coach Mark LeBlanc said. “We kept the pressure on Hattiesburg the whole 80 minutes. We had a lot of opportunities to score and scored a season high five goals. We had four different girls to score for us. We were able to give a lot of girls some playing time against a good team with a lot of talent. This was our best performance of the year.”
Both teams settled into a defensive battle to start the game with neither team able to get any separation. The Lady Cougars had several scoring attempts but were unable to put the ball into the net.
Five minutes into the game, the weather threatened to get nasty, which caused a weather delay.

The Lady Forerunners eventually broke through to score.
Breaking fast and hard, the Lady Cougars broke the tie and kept the attack going as they scored another goal a few minutes later.
Hattiesburg found the goal soon after, to trail 3-2.
The Lady Cougars scored another goal to go up 4-2 at the half.
