The good news was not in short supply this past week, with more than 30 positive stories making the pages of The Daily Leader. Below is a look back at some of those.
• Callie’s Palooza, an event to honor Callie Cole and help raise funds to help missionaries, will be June 22-23. Callie’s Palooza will be at the Brookhaven Exchange Club Park. There will be food and games, and the park’s rides will be running during the event. Armbands for admission to the rides are $10. The purpose of Callie’s Mission is to raise money for high school and college students to participate in spreading the Gospel. The organization sponsors students to go on mission trips in her honor.
• The winners of Dixie Youth tournaments were announced recently. Ole Brook Tire and Auto, Bank of Franklin and Pike National Bank won their respective age divisions. Dixie Youth All-Stars were also announced last week.
• The Lincoln County Public Library is hosting several programs throughout the month, all with the goal of helping children learn and grow over the summer. The library’s theme in June is “Libraries Rock,” and children are invited to rock along with the summer reading program, Lego club and Totally Rockin’ Thursday Morning Movie Matinee across three days every week this month. The reading program begins Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m., the Lego activities are all day on Wednesdays and the matinees are Thursdays at 10 a.m.
• A Barkfest reboot will take place Saturday as a fundraiser for the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League. The original event in April was cut short due to weather, so organizers decided to give it another try. The event at the Exchange Club Park will have activities for dogs and humans, ranging from games and face painting, to a doggy spa and a puppy petting zoo. There will be vendors selling food and an assortment of products. The rides will be up and running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and armbands will be available for $10. There will also be a car show sponsored by GT Collision and Accessories.
