Two Jackson women have been arrested on charges of identity theft after a failed attempt at passing stolen checks, authorities said.
Jamise Rochelle Butler, 37, of 524 Stillwood St., and Kameelah Monae James, 19, of 3428 Dundee Lane, were charged by Brookhaven police for uttering forgery and identity theft, Capt. Clint Earls said.
He said they tried to use stolen checks to pay for merchandise at Walmart Dec. 30, but were detained. Brookhaven Police Department worked along with Walmart Asset Protection to make the arrest.
Earls said the two women had successfully used stolen checks to purchase items at that store a week earlier.
