With presents to unwrap, families to host and parties to attend, many regional agencies are offering their employees much-needed time off in honor of the holiday season. That means most public and private offices will shut down at some point during the weeks of Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Here is a list of area closings:

The Daily Leader office will close Monday for Christmas and Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day, but paper deliveries will go uninterrupted and follow their regular Tuesday through Saturday schedule.

Lincoln County offices and Brookhaven City offices will be closed Dec. 25-26 and Jan 1.

Monticello City offices will close at noon today and reopen Dec. 27. They will also close at noon Dec. 29 and reopen Jan. 2.

Bude City offices will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and Meadville City offices will close Dec. 25-26, as well as Jan. 1.

Meanwhile, Wesson City offices will close today and reopen Dec. 26, and they will also be closed Jan. 1.

Copiah County, Franklin County and Lawrence county offices will close Dec. 25 and 26 for Christmas and reopen on Dec. 27. They will also close Jan. 1 in celebration of the New Year.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol license exam office will be closed Monday Dec. 25 and Tuesday Dec. 26. They will also close Monday Jan. 1.

Brookhaven School District will recommence classes Jan. 5, and Lincoln and Copiah County schools will welcome students back Jan. 4. Brookhaven Academy resumes coursework Jan. 3. Franklin County schools start back on Jan. 7, and Lawrence County schools reopen Jan. 8. The Mississippi School of the Arts restarts classes Jan. 5.

Waste Pro’s trash pickup schedule will be delayed by a single day on the weeks of Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, with Monday pickups occurring Tuesday, Tuesday pickups on Wednesday, Wednesday pickups on Thursday, Thursday pickups on Friday and Friday pickups on Saturday.

Waste Pro site manager John Gibson would like customers to remember to have trash ready for pickup by 7 a.m. the day of scheduled removal. He said that should ultimately keep the holiday pickup timetable on track.

“We don’t want to run behind on our pickups,” he said.

The Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will close its doors Saturday and reopen Jan. 2.

Lastly, the United States Postal Service will make no deliveries on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.
