For most area churches, fall is a time of cooler temps and crispy leaves covering the ground, but for a few it means candy in car trunks.

Several Lincoln County churches are hosting trunk-or-treat celebrations Sunday.

Pastor Garland Boyd at Macedonia Baptist Church said hot dogs and candy will be plentiful at Macedonia Baptist Church. Their celebration is 5 to 7 p.m.

“This is an opportunity for us to invite the community to meet some of our church members and have some fun,” Boyd said. “We’re going to have all kinds of stuff for the kids. There will be plenty of hot dogs and candy.”

Southway Baptist Church will host its trunk-or-treat beginning at 4 p.m. Church members will keep handing out candy to children as long as there is someone in line. Several people are planning to decorate the trunks of their cars and many will have fun games to engage visiting children.

They’ll have a table filled with hot dogs, hamburgers and fixings as well as a plethora of desserts, in case the wrapped candy isn’t enough sweets.

“This is a good alternative for our kids to have fun in a safe, controlled way,” said Carrie Adams. “There will be several fun jumps and games for the kids.”

First Baptist Church is hosting trunk-or-treat celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be games and activities in the church parking lot.

Easthaven Baptist Church will have a trunk-or-treating celebration from 5 to 7 p.m.

Trunk-or-treat at First United Methodist Church will take place in the church parking lot from 5 to 7 p.m.

Shady Grove Baptist Church is not only hosting trunk-or-treat, but they’re having a fish fry as well. All the fun takes place from 5-8 p.m.

Faith Presbyterian Church will not have Halloween activities this year, but they’re planning to revamp their fall celebration and kick it off next year.

Clear Branch Baptist Church is not planning trunk-or-treat, but they are hosting a judgment house called “Web of Lies.” The walk-through drama tells the story of a tormented cyber-stalker and his victims. Visitors, divided into groups of 20, follow the action across nine live scenes acted out by approximately 50 volunteers, seeing every milestone as the main characters meet tragedy, stand before the judgment of God and face the hot horrors of hell and the cool welcome of heaven.    

Performances are Saturday and Sunday at 5 p.m. and again Wednesday at 6 p.m. A love offering of $3 per person is suggested, but no one who wants to see the story of sin, judgment and redemption will be turned away.
