Music and Art in Trinity Park is back today with a band from Copiah-Lincoln Community College scheduled to perform.

At noon the Sojourners, a rock-n-roll and pop band, will take the outdoor stage.  Last week, Tyler Bridge of Brookhaven Music and Sound kicked off the event, which is held weekly in April and October.

“We’re trying to give musicians and artists an opportunity to show off their talents and for people to enjoy an afternoon in the park,” said Shaw Furlow, who is helping organize the events.

Furlow said people interested in performing or showing off artwork should just show up.

“We encourage local businesses to come out, bring a lunch and a chair or blanket. Come have a picnic in the park and listen to music and look at art,” said Furlow.

Next week the Ole Brook Clarinet Ensemble will perform, and on the final week, the Total Praize Choir of the Mississippi School of the Arts will conclude the October series.

Furlow said organizers are trying to build the arts and music scene in Brookhaven. He said the music scene has come along pretty well.

“We’ve got places for musicians to play. We’ve got plenty of people to fill the slots and musicians are making money,” said Furlow. “If we could do the same thing with the arts scene it would be great.”

The festivities start at noon and end at 1 p.m. The park is located next to Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.
