Funeral services for Billy G. Nippert, of Brookhaven, were Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Regency Church of Christ in Mobile, Alabama with burial at Mobile Memorial Gardens. Ascension Funerals & Cremations in Mobile, Alabama were in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nippert, 89, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2017. He was born May 30, 1928, in his country home in Greer County, Oklahoma, near the north fork of the Red River close to the town of Jester. He was the second son of Travis Webster Nippert and Ida Mae (Shaw) Nippert. Years later, the family of three boys moved to a farm, also in Greer County, and commercially farmed and ranched. The boys attended school in the Plainview community. He attended Cameron State Agricultural College in Lawton Oklahoma. In 1951, he received his Bachelor of Science in petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma in Norman.

Known as “Bill” Nippert in his many professional years as an ambitious and persevering oil and gas drilling manager, he was initially employed for 20 years by Cities Service Oil Co., producing wells onshore and off, from South Texas to Alabama. He and his family lived in Brookhaven for 10 years. He and his wife LaVerne were among the founding members of the Brookway Church of Christ in Brookhaven. He was an accomplished horseman and hunter and enjoyed raising quarterhorses and cattle. He lived both in Lafayette, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama, working for Marion Oil Corp. Daphne, Alabama, for many years. He and LaVerne were members of Pleasant Valley, Western Hills and finally Regency Church of Christ. No labor or sacrifice was too great for his church family or anyone in need.

He never met anything to be afraid of. His wit and great sense of humor never failed. His sometimes wild and sovereign ways are seen in the children of his beloved nieces and nephews, warming our hearts with his memory.

He is preceded in death by his dear parents; wife, Flora LaVerne Hale; daughter, Paula Nippert; older brother, Junior (and Betty Hamilton).

Survivors are his younger brother Merlin (Patsy Heatly); sons, Ronald (Marcia Barney) and Kenneth; daughter, Linda Glenn (David); and granddaughter Maura Nippert.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Regency Church of Christ, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
