The Brookhaven Academy Cougars came out of the gates on fire in front of a large homecoming crowd Friday night.
Luke Jackson put on a show for the Cougars, catching two touchdown passes and returning his second interception of the game for six points.
The Cougars jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter against Claiborne Academy. Senior running back Logan Murray had two rushing touchdowns and senior Tanner Waldrop tacked on one touchdown in a dominating 45-7 win.
Corey Case added a 32 yard field goal.
“I wanted the guys to come out with their heads on fire and challenge a tough team from Louisiana,” said head coach Ron Rushing. “We’ve got a tough test next week and I expect the same effort.”
The Cougars take on Centreville Academy, which is the second district game, on Sept. 29. They beat Clinton Christian Academy in their first district game. A win against Centreville guarantees them a spot in the playoffs.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Centreville.
