Family-friendly fun events are coming to Wesson.
City Clerk Mandy Cain and Angela Hester, another city employee, want to have one event each month throughout the fall to give children fun things to do.
Today, there will be a back to school bash in the town park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We will have hot dogs and chips for lunch, and popcorn for a snack,” Cain said. “Parents and kids of all ages are invited to come out and play carnival games and enjoy community fellowships.”
In October, they will have a fall festival in the park on Halloween night.
“It’s going to be a trunk-or-treat style. We will have games as well,” said Cain.
During November, they are planning a family-friendly movie night in the park. A date hasn’t been set yet.
In December, they will be bringing back Small Town Christmas, which will be on Dec. 1 after the Christmas parade.
“Wesson has done this in the past, but it hasn’t been a steady event. We want to bring it back and make this a regular thing we do. Different places throughout town will have carolers, ‘A Christmas Story’ will be read at the library and Santa will be at the fire station. We will also have carriage rides,” said Cain.
She said they are asking businesses, churches and organizations to host a game booth during one of the events throughout the fall.
“We believe this will help rejuvenate our town and provide opportunities for our youth to be involved in their community. To make these events a success, we will need everyone’s help,” she said.
