Below are the most current reports on fishing conditions of lakes in the area. Information is courtesy of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
Percy Quin State Park
Bass are schooling and biting well, especially on the north end of the lake. Try topwater lures, soft plastics and spinnerbaits in shallow water in the grass and also around the willow trees.
Bream fishing is good right now. One angler caught 70 in two days during the full moon. Try fishing in about four feet of water around the banks. Redworms and crickets are working the best.
Some good size black crappie are being caught in the willows. One angler caught 10 last weekend, while another caught 18 fishing in the willows about seven feet deep.
A lot of catfish are being caught with higher water. Most anglers are having success on cutbait and worms.
Lake Lincoln State Park
Bass are schooling some. Rattling crankbaits and soft plastics are working well. Also, try top water lures early in the morning or late in the evening, and soft plastics in shallow and medium depths.
Bream fishing should be picking up around the full moon. Crickets and worms are the best baits.
Crappie fishing is reportedly very slow. Anglers are having a tough time catching fish. Try trolling or spider rigging in 8-12 feet of water. Minnows and jigs are both working well.
No current reports on catfish. Fishing around the island should produce some fish. Worms or cutbait fished on the bottom are the baits of choice.
Lake Mary Crawford
Lake Mary Crawford is being drained for renovation. The boat ramps are closed, but kayaks and small boats may be launched from the bank. All creel limits have been lifted, but all other laws still apply. Anglers must have a valid fishing license, pay the state lake fee and only rod and reel may be used to harvest fish.
Bass fishing is still good. The lower water level is concentrating the fish and the bass are schooled up and biting well. Two bass over four pounds were caught at a recent fruit jar tournament. Black or junebug colored worms are the best lures right now. Target shallow and medium depths.
Bream fishing is good. Red worms and crickets are working very well. Also, the new lake record Bluegill (0.9 lbs.) was caught by William Bennett of Monticello.
Crappie fishing is slow.
Catfishing is good. Two big fish were caught recently on ham. Also try cutbait, worms or commercial catfish bait on the bottom.
