The Brookhaven High School Cross Country club will host its second annual “Run with the Panthers 5K” race on July 29 with the starting line at the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce.

The early registration period for the race ends Thursday with registration starting at $20. Registration on race day opens at 7:30 a.m. with the price starting at $25. The mile run is set to follow at 9:30 a.m.

Awards given out at the race include the first place winners for the male and female race participants and the top three male and females in each age group.

Proceeds from the race benefit the Brookhaven High School Cross Country team.

After the first successful race last year, event coordinator Julie Pounds expects an even bigger turnout for the second race this year.

“We believe the race will be much bigger this year,” Pounds said. “We have planned for 200 participants this year for the race.”

T-shirts commemorating the event will be available for those who register early. Extras may or may not be available for participants who register the day of the race.
